Train the Trainer part 4

On the same day of the class schedule for train the trainer, I was given the same date to present a class on Perspective 2. If i were to change the date of the perspective class the next date would of been in January of 09. First of all I did not want to prolong the time due to anxiety nor did I want to present a class after the TTP classes. So I felt that the timing was good. I e-mailed my mentor with the lesson plans, I then received a date to make an appointment and talk.

Well I made the call and we spoke about my lesson plans and instructing the class. My lesson plans were too vague. I was a bit nervous on the call (I wanted to do a very good job) so my thoughts were not flowing. That is when my mentor suggested that I did not have to do this particular class and if i felt that I was not ready that was OK. More panic set in all I kept thinking of was when am I going to fit this in my schedule! So as we talk a little Joanne was very helpful in directing me. She asked if I had any previous experience teaching. I told her about my adult education classes and my teaching there, so she suggested that I use that knowledge for my class. I knew at that point that she would of rather ed me change the date. She had just as much confidence in me as I had in me. Which was little to none. I told her that by the next day she have my new revised lesson plans.

After the call I became even more aware of my thoughts and I realized that I was giving myself disempowering thoughts, and fear became my focus. Wasn't that what the class is all about, perspective. Who was the best example? me. So as soon as I got home that night I re-arraigned my schedule and I went right to the computer. My thoughts became very empowering and my lesson plans reflected that feeling. I then e-mailed to Joanne. When I read her e-mail the next day I could feel her confidence in me had changed. She knew that I was ready, and she acknowledged me for taking immediate action. I looked forward to the call now feeling enthused. As I began to work on the revised lesson plans my reframing played an important role, but the key element was that I was now focused on helping the other students, what is in it for them to take away. I was no longer focused on me. The class went extremely well. I received great feed back from the students as well as from my mentor. Joanne played an important part in guiding me to create a good set of plans and to present a great class, her feedback after the class has help me to become a more effective trainer. I appreciated her help and guidance. From that class I learned to accept myself for who I am. I also learned that questions are very important in receiving class participation. The one question that I did get a great deal of feedback from was "what are you able to take away with you today from this class." My self awareness guided me to listen to the reaction of the students.

After listening to the class audio on leadership I discovered that I have most of the qualities of being a good leader. By using these qualities as my strenghts and turning my weaknesses to strentghs I have the ability to becoming a great leader. I am always interested in learning more about my profession and ways that I can improve my skills.
In class we were asked to draw our worst teacher. My third grade teacher immediately came to mind. She was always putting me down, making me feel not good enough and she always used me as bad example. When when son started school she was his first teacher. My wife and I argued about not sending him to that school because that teacher. She soon found out that I was not making the stuff up. This teacher did the same things to my son. Talking to others we found out that we were not alone there were other children treated the same. My best teachers were two professors that I had in college. They brought out the qualities of the students, they had passion for their work, and they wanted to see us succeed.
My vision as a teacher is educate and inform as many people as I can reach. To them the skills they have for the endless possibilities that they have to be happy, healthy, and prosperous. To acknowledge people for who they are. To be the best that I can.

Train the Trainer Part 3

At the beginning of class we were asked to choose three main qualities of a great trainer. Mine were: Focus, Good Listener, and Communicator. Teaching is all about the student. I feel that by being focused and a good listener it will enhance my communication skills to get the message across, for the students to understand, apply, and take action in the direction of achieving their goals.

The part of the lesson plan to me that is the most important are the use of our words. By helping others to be able to change their disempowering thoughts and words to more empowering thoughts and words, they will be able to remain focused on their goals and be able to take action in achieving their goals. Our thoughts are the controlling factor of our lives. Every thought creates a word that creates action. Thought, Word, Action. So in reality by changing our mind we change our lives.
My greatest reward in teaching is hearing the success of the students. Even though I have my lesson plan, I tell the class at the beginning that the classes are designed for them. I let them know at the very beginning that my goal in teaching is help them to achieve their goals. There are times depending on the class that I might deviate from the lesson plan itself, it might be the questions that they might ask or the students themselves that need more information, but I often find that I am some how guided right back to the plan. In teaching I use my intuitiveness to guide me.

Train the Trainer Part 2

I have set a date to present a class on Perspectives, Wed. Dec. 3 at 3:pm EST. At first when asked to design a lesson plan I became very aware of my conscious incompetence. My thoughts were very disempowering in fear that I would not do a good job, judgement was my fear. But then I realized that this was a class on perspective. Who would be the best example, me. As I began to re-frame my thoughts I became more competent. By using words to enhance empowerment I was able to write my lesson plan. I knew what I wanted to say I just need to be focused and organized.
By being aware of the different levels of competencies I will use those levels to be a guide into developing my skills of a great trainer.
Through example I am able to use the competencies to become a better trainer. My goal in teaching is to help others to achieve their goals.

Trainer the Trainer

I have enrolled in the train the trainer course to enhance my teaching abilities. I enjoy teaching in Adult Schools, and working with teenagers. It is great seeing the difference in people at the end of the classes.

My goal in taking the train the trainer course is to enhance my teaching abilities, as well as to learn how to host teleclasses. By having a better understanding of the different teaching styles, I feel that those styles will help me to be better at my presentations.

When beginning my classes on the first night I want the students to feel comfortable and safe. I do this by first introducing myself and giving them a little background on myself. That usually consists on where I was in life several years ago to how I got to be where I am today. I then ask them to introduce themselves and why they are here taking the class. I have found that by giving this background, and doing the introduction it creates a safe environment for the students. It helps to them to know that they are not alone in their struggle to enhance the quality of life. Each opening night I ask if they have any questions about the previous class. I then share with them a short story. I have found that by opening my class in this manner the students are more willing to share and participate in class.

Before I begin my classes I take a few moments to relax by body and mind (meditation-guided imagery) I ask for guidance in my presentation, as well as being focused and present. This helps me to be a good listener, as well as giving me a direction to give the students what they need. All my classes are structured. I use overheads or LCD projector, I have handouts, create hands on.

When ask to choose one word to describe learning I chose the word confidence. To have the ability to have an open mind to be both teacher and student. To share my knowledge with others and not to worry about what others think. Confidence for the student to be able to share their thoughts and have an open mind as well.

New Beginings

Just when you think it is time to throw in the towel, the law of attraction comes into play.

We are what we think. Faith is the key factor. As Winston Churchill once said never, never, never, give up.

This weekend I have met so many successful people in my field of hypnotism, who have been a great help to my profession. Throguh their help and knowledge I am moving forward.
